 Old-Fashion Beef Stew
 
bullet2 lbs. beef chuck, cubed
bullet2 T. fat
bullet4 cusp boiling water
bullet1 T. lemon juice (optional)
bullet1 t. Worcestershire sauce
bullet1 clove garlic
bullet1 medium onion, sliced
bullet1 or 2 bay leaves
bullet1 T. salt
bullet1 t. sugar
bullet1/2 t. pepper
bullet1/2 t. paprika
bulletdash allspice or cloves
bullet 
bullet6 carrots
bullet1 lb. small onions
bullet1 lb. potatoes cubed
 

 

Thoroughly brown the meat on all sides in hot fat, turning often. Add next 11 ingredients. Cover; simmer (do not boil) 2 hours. Stir often. Remove bay leaves and garlic.

Add carrots, onions, and potatoes. Cover and simmer until vegetables are tender.
